About XCIS AI
XCIS AI is a technology and innovation company focused on delivering AI, automation, digital transformation, data, and custom technology solutions that solve complex business challenges. We partner with organizations across high-impact industries, including the nuclear sector, to build scalable, secure, and forward-thinking solutions.
As our work continues to expand, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Oracle Database Architect / DBA to lead and support a critical Oracle database modernization and migration initiative.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Oracle Database Architect / DBA to lead the architecture, planning, execution, and stabilization of a complex Oracle database migration project.
The successful candidate will be responsible for migrating an existing legacy Oracle database environment to a newer, supported Oracle database platform. This individual will assess the current environment, define the target-state architecture, develop the migration strategy, execute the migration, and ensure database security, reliability, performance, recoverability, and operational readiness.
This is a senior technical role requiring deep Oracle Database expertise, strong architectural judgment, and demonstrated experience successfully delivering complex database upgrades and migrations in enterprise environments.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing the overall database architecture, performing hands-on technical work, resolving complex issues, and collaborating with application, infrastructure, security, business, and project teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end-to-end architecture, planning, execution, and validation of an Oracle database migration from a legacy environment to a newer Oracle database platform
- Assess the existing database environment, including database versions, schemas, applications, integrations, dependencies, workloads, storage requirements, security configurations, and operational constraints
- Define the target-state database architecture based on performance, scalability, availability, security, disaster recovery, maintainability, and business requirements
- Evaluate migration and upgrade approaches and recommend the most appropriate strategy based on database size, platform compatibility, downtime tolerance, technical risk, and recovery requirements
- Develop a detailed database migration roadmap, technical implementation plan, cutover plan, rollback strategy, validation plan, and post-migration support plan
- Perform Oracle database installations, configurations, upgrades, migrations, patching, cloning, and environment refreshes
- Conduct database compatibility assessments, pre-migration checks, dependency analysis, capacity planning, and technical risk assessments
- Use appropriate Oracle migration and recovery technologies, including Oracle Data Pump, RMAN, AutoUpgrade, Data Guard, GoldenGate, Transportable Tablespaces, or equivalent tools
- Design and implement backup, recovery, replication, high-availability, and disaster-recovery solutions
- Configure and support Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and related Oracle infrastructure where applicable
- Analyze and optimize database performance using tools and techniques such as AWR, ASH, ADDM, execution plans, indexing, partitioning, statistics management, and SQL tuning
- Identify and remediate obsolete features, unsupported configurations, invalid database objects, compatibility issues, and application dependencies before migration
- Review and optimize SQL and PL/SQL code to support compatibility, performance, and stability in the target environment
- Plan and execute migration rehearsals, performance testing, failover testing, data validation, cutover activities, and production stabilization
- Ensure the completeness, accuracy, integrity, and security of data throughout the migration lifecycle
- Develop automated scripts and utilities for database deployment, migration, validation, monitoring, maintenance, and operational support
- Implement database security controls, including encryption, auditing, access management, privileged account controls, and least-privilege principles
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex database, migration, performance, connectivity, replication, storage, and recovery issues
- Collaborate with application developers, infrastructure teams, cybersecurity teams, business stakeholders, vendors, and project leadership
- Provide technical leadership, recommendations, risk reporting, and status updates throughout the migration project
- Produce and maintain comprehensive architecture diagrams, migration runbooks, configuration documentation, operating procedures, recovery procedures, and knowledge-transfer materials
- Support the transition of the migrated database into production operations and provide post-implementation stabilization support
- Ensure all work complies with organizational security, change-management, documentation, and quality requirements
Required Qualifications
- Eight or more years of progressive professional experience as an Oracle Database Administrator, Oracle Database Architect, or senior database engineering professional
- Demonstrated experience leading complex Oracle database upgrades, migrations, or modernization initiatives in enterprise environments
