About XCIS AI
XCIS AI is a technology and innovation company focused on delivering AI, automation, digital transformation, data, and custom technology solutions that solve complex business challenges. We partner with organizations across high-impact industries, including the nuclear sector, to build scalable, secure, and forward-thinking solutions.
As our work continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced Senior Oracle Database Consultant to support enterprise Oracle database environments, particularly Oracle workloads hosted in Azure and accessed by business-critical applications from on-premises environments.
About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Oracle Database Consultant for a part-time contract engagement to assess, validate, and recommend best practices for Oracle databases running in Azure, while supporting multiple business-critical thick-client applications connecting from on-premises environments.
The successful candidate will provide senior-level advisory and managed-services support across Oracle database architecture, Azure networking, client connectivity, database performance tuning, backup and recovery, disaster recovery, storage optimization, and operational best practices.
This role requires deep Oracle expertise, strong understanding of Azure hybrid environments, and the ability to advise on complex enterprise database environments where multiple applications and users connect simultaneously from corporate endpoints.
The ideal candidate is a senior Oracle subject-matter expert with strong architecture, troubleshooting, performance, and advisory experience in regulated or mission-critical environments.
Employment Type: Part-Time Contract
Key Responsibilities
- Assess existing Oracle database architecture and provide recommendations for enterprise deployment best practices.
- Review Oracle databases hosted in Azure and advise on architecture, performance, scalability, availability, and operational reliability.
- Evaluate Oracle memory configuration, instance optimization, SGA/PGA management, indexing strategies, and non-functional design considerations.
- Provide best-practice guidance for Oracle client connectivity from enterprise and thick-client applications.
- Assess and recommend Oracle connectivity configurations involving ODP.NET Managed Driver, ODP.NET Unmanaged Driver, OCI Client, JDBC Drivers, and ODBC Drivers.
- Advise on best practices for connecting on-premises applications to Oracle databases hosted behind Azure firewalls.
- Review and recommend Azure networking architecture for Oracle workloads, including Azure Firewall, hybrid networking, secure connectivity patterns, and network performance optimization.
- Support troubleshooting and optimization of hybrid connectivity between on-premises environments and Azure-hosted Oracle databases.
- Provide guidance on TCP Keep-Alive configuration, persistent database connections, network timeout tuning, firewall-induced connection drops, and the database impact of connection-management settings.
- Recommend strategies to prevent application firewalls from terminating database connections unnecessarily.
- Review and recommend Oracle backup and recovery strategies using RMAN, archive-log management, recovery planning, and recovery testing.
- Provide guidance on Oracle Data Guard, high availability, disaster recovery architecture, failover design, replication strategies, and DR testing.
- Assess storage configuration and performance for Oracle workloads, including SSD sizing, IOPS optimization, throughput design, database file layout, and Azure storage performance.
- Support enterprise Oracle environments used by multiple applications and user groups.
- Provide recommendations for operational excellence, monitoring, maintainability, documentation, and long-term support.
- Collaborate with technical teams, business stakeholders, infrastructure teams, application teams, and project leadership.
- Produce clear technical recommendations, findings, documentation, and implementation guidance.
